System slowness and instability may be caused by many reasons. Some of them are the unbounded accumulation of junk files due to app installations, the operating system itself, Web surfing, and others. In this case, it's advisable to use a tool like DiskMax. It allows you to clean and optimize your system by locating and deleting all the junk files stored on your hard drive, thus recovering some of its lost performance.
DiskMax, however, doesn't offer what I would call a "conventional interface". It doesn't show you the typical window where you can tweak some settings and start the disk scanning process of your choice. Rather, the only thing you can select as soon as you run the program is the scanning method (among Quick, Standard, Detailed, and Complete). Then, the program will start the process automatically. The time it may take will depend on the selected scanning method and the size of the drive, of course.
During the scanning process, the program will ask you whether you want to clear the area being analyzed or not. Besides, you can decide if you really want to clear the system's temporary files, the Web browser's cookies, its history and temporary files, any Windows update backup files, and even the temporary files of other users, among others. Fortunately, DiskMax allows you to save your answers for each of those questions, so that the next scanning processes will run much faster. Anyway, you can always reset all your saved preferences at any time too, and be asked again. more
